Proofreading and Editing Services

As a recovering perfectionist and a lover of the English language, proofreading and editing come naturally to me. From the time I was in grade school, others have asked me to proofread their work and make suggestions for improvement. As a writer, including editing as one of my services seemed like a good fit.

I offer basic proofreading, comprehensive proofreading, and copyediting to students, business professionals, editors, authors, and individuals who want to be sure their work accurately reflects the desired content, is readable, and clearly stated.

From business correspondence and marketing pieces to technical manuals and thesis statements, I will proofread or edit virtually any project regardless of its length or complexity. Services are charged based on the time frame in which the work is needed, the complexity of the project, and the specific services needed. I can charge by the hour or by the page for such projects, but it often makes more sense for both the client and me to charge a "per project" fee.

Basic proofreading services include checking for spelling and punctuation errors, proper capitalization, basic formatting, and word usage.

Comprehensive proofreading includes the services noted above, in addition to basic copy editing, line editing, document formatting, AP style usage (number formatting, appropriate abbreviations, etc.), and minor suggestions for improvement.

Copyediting includes comprehensive proofreading, suggestions for preferred word usage, formatting and placement suggestions, review of readability, language "clean-up," etc.

I work regularly with AP Style, the Chicago Manual of Style and APA style.
